Epidermotropism of atypical lymphocytes with cerebriform nuclei. Lymphocytes appear in the basal layer of the epidermis and at the dermal-epidermal junction. Some lymphocytes have a clear space (halo) around them which is a diagnostic feature of mycosis fungoides.
